Once you get hooked on bloggers, you get tired of the default templates. If you are just like me, then you would like to personalize your blogger. There are a quite a number of functional and beautiful blogger templates we can import to replace these default templates and they are free. First of all, you can just download a blog template from World Press, paste it over your default blogger template- eh voila, c’est tout.
On the other hand, if all you want to do is to modify it a bit, you can do some of the following. You can change the colours and layout of your existing template into something that's unique and attractive. You can add different headers, change the background, and even change the font style and actually it’s really very simple.
To change the fonts and colours of your template: Go to your Google blogger dashboard and click on the layout tab. From there you'll see four links: post, setting, html, design/layout. Choose the fonts and colours link and you'll be taken to a page that is split into two sections. The top section contains the items that you can edit and change and the bottom section gives you a preview of what that change will look like. Feel free to modify the elements as much as you like because you cannot cause any changes until you press the save button. Assuming you choose a colour or font that you don't like you can always cancel those changes. Once satisfied, you can save the changes.
Another thing you can do is to add a personal header to the page. Most default headers display just text but you can easily add an image behind the text or even replace the text at the top. To accomplish this, go to the layout tab and click on the page elements link. You'll see a page that shows the basic layout of your blogger. Find your header at the top and click on the edit link to bring up the configure header display. From here you can upload your image. Where would you like to put it behind the text or instead of the text? Most Blogger header sizes are 730 pixels wide so keep this in mind when designing your header graphic.
Advanced editing can also be done to your template however you will need some html knowledge before you try to rewrite any code. All the same, there are some simple things that you can do that shouldn't be too hard. The first is changing the background colour of your page as we mention above. Scroll down until you see the body style sheet of the template. This is where you'll find the information about your template such as background colour, line-height and general font-size. If you know the hexadecimal colour number that you want for your background then just replace it- that’s the number that starts with a hash (#)) -with your new colour number.
In the advanced editing section you can also add your Google Analytics code at the bottom of the template before the /body tag if you would like to track your visitors.
At the basic level you can do one of the following:
List: Add a list with the ability to add a title, select the number of items to display, sort your list alphabetically and add links to your list elements.
Link List: Add a link list to your blog with the ability to add a link list title, select the number of items to display and sort your link list alphabetically.
Labels: Add a list of all the labels you've used on your posts. Click each link to see a page showing all the posts with that label. You can change the title of the list, and sort it alphabetically or by frequency of use.
Picture: Add a picture from your computer or the web. You can also add a title and caption to your picture and shrink the picture to fit into your blog perfectly.
Text: Add text to your blogger -a welcome message or footnote with the rich text editor.
HTML/JavaScript: Add an imported HTML/JavaScript code to your blog.
Feed: Add content from a site feed. Enter the feed URL, then click Continue. You'll then be able to add a title, select the number of items to show (up to five) and display the item dates and/or authors by selecting the appropriate check boxes.
